Bob Dylan In The Nineties & Beyond - Hidden Classics

Following on from previous posts here and here, here's a look at some underappreciated Dylan tracks from the nineties and beyond.

You're Gonna Quit Me
An excellent upbeat blues cover from Good As I Been To You. Revisiting these blues and folk classics reinvigorated Dylan's songwriting and helped form the style for the material he's been recording since.

Delia
A fabulous Blind Willie McTell cover from World Gone Wrong, Dylan's second album of folk and blues covers. People tend to undervalue these albums as they don't feature any new Dylan songs, but it's important to remember that Dylan started his career as an interpreter rather than a writer.

Has Anybody Seen My Love
An inspired interpretation of a mid eighties tune, previously buried by unsympathetic production, but allowed to flourish here in this excellent reading from Dylan's celebrated Supper Club performances from 1993.

Highlands
Dylan's songwriting mojo returned big time with Time Out Of Mind, with the lengthy Highlands tucked away at the end returning to Tangled Up In Blue territory. No sound sample available.

Mississippi
Eventually released on Love & Theft, but more recently showing up in a great solo demo version on Telltale Signs this was picked up by Sheryl Crow and covered before either Dylan release came out, proving that she sure can pick 'em. No sound sample available.

Train of Love
A live performance from a Johnny Cash tribute concert this shows Dylan's interpretive skills at their best and gives his excellent touring band a chance to shine as well.

Bob Dylan Train Of Love
Get More: Bob Dylan Train Of Love
Summer Days
An energetic old fashioned rock and roller from the great Love & Theft album. No sound sample available.

Return To Me
An ingratiating version of this old Dean martin standard recorded for the Sopranos TV series and again  featuring Dylan's touring band to good effect.

'Cross The Green Mountain
An excellent and ambitious addition to Dylan's recent canon was this great piece from the Gods & Generals soundtrack. The full version runs over 8 minutes and can be found on Telltale Signs. No sound sample available.

Someday Baby
A highlight from the classic Modern Times album. Amazingly, the completely different arrangement on Telltale Signs is even better. Hunt them both out.
